It was 6 o’clock in the morning when we started the 4 hour journey to Exeter, however it didn’t seem so long as most of us were staring at the back of our eyelids, except for Dad as he was driving!
It was sunny when we arrived. We picked a good spot right next to the finish line. After taking the boats off the trailer, we paddled to the jetty and waited for the first race.
Kelly was in charge of the video and managed to take some good footage of us paddling, even though it was quite difficult to make out our team in the distance.
The charity boat races that took place in between the league races were entertaining and gave us enough of a break to refuel and discuss tactics for the next challenge.
200m
Our first race got us through to the semis with 56.7 (TAO got 55.21 and Exe-calibre got 58.51).
In the semis we got 57.24 against Raging Dragons’s 56.28 and TAO’s 56.48 resulted in us being put into the tail final race. The tail final result were Hurricanes 56.25, TAO 54.67 and Thames Taniwas who got 55.30
Then on to 450 m (not 500m at Exeter)
In our first race we got 1.54.98 which put us through to the Cup semis as 3rd fastest runner up. We got 1.52.01 against Worcester’s 1.51.11 and Amathus’s 1.51.50.
Unfortunately we didn't make the final again but another Cup Tail Race where we got 1.54.55 against Exe-Calibre with 1.54.33 and Thames Taniwas with 1.54.91
Despite us not getting the results we were hoping for, it was a great day and an exciting introduction for me into dragonboat racing and I was already looking forward to the next one!
